Better than traditional salon protein treatments, and is longer lasting. Intensely POTENT, it only takes a tiny capful for each treatment. The 1 ounce size contains 8-10 treatments! Previously available at only a few high-end salons, and they charged between $150 and $250 for EACH TREATMENT. Now, you can do it at home!

These days, just about everyone is doing something to their hair. Coloring it, adding highlights, straightening or curling it... even a blow dryer and hair brush will damage hair over time. Hair can only take so much, and it can't repair itself.

Understanding damaged hair: The hair shaft is made up of dead, hard protein called keratin, in three layers. The inner layer is called the medulla. The next layer is the cortex, and the outer layer is the cuticle. The cortex makes up the majority of the hair shaft. The cuticle is formed by tightly packed scales in an overlapping structure, similar to roof shingles. When hair is damaged by chemicals, heat or trauma such as brushing through tangles, pieces of the cuticle chip off and expose the delicate cortex. Without it’s cuticle as protection, hair kinks (frizz) and is weak and breaks easily. When this happens near the bottom of the shaft, the layers of the exposed inner cortex start to peel and fray (split ends). The tear will travel up the shaft and eventually the shaft breaks. This is why it can be almost impossible for some people to grow their hair long. It just keeps breaking!

To repair the damage, you need to replace the missing keratin protein. Our collagen treatment is a unique product, and is the only one of it’s kind on the market that is just pure protein, nothing else. It has a low molecular weight so that it can work it’s way down to the cortex and protect the hair shaft from breakage by replacing the hair’s lost protective cuticle. Does it work on ethnic hair types, such as those of African descent? YES! The hair protein works on ALL types of hair. It's especially helpful for ethnic (kinky curly and very delicate) hair because due to the structure of this type of hair, it tends to tangle, knot and break easily. Abrasion and wear at the point of curvature can also lead to cuticle loss and weak spots. Mechanical forces, such as combing, and chemical treatments and hot irons only make these weak spots weaker, which is why there is typically so much breakage. The Pure Protein will add extra protein to build up those weak spots and provide more flexibility (not to mention protection from heat and styling).

Unlike the Brazilian and other salon keratin straightening treatments, there is no long process of drying and straightening and then letting it cure for days after a treatment. And this will NOT STRAIGHTEN YOUR HAIR. Our collagen treatment is very simply a process to repair damaged hair. It’s easy to do at home, takes very little time, and is only needed about twice a month. After application there are no restrictions, you may style your hair as usual and even wear it in a ponytail. Results last up to 1 month.

So, how exactly does it work? When used as directed, the treatment deposits a protective layer of protein on the hair shaft. The protein fills in all of the places where the natural keratin has been damaged and chipped off, leaving "open wounds" on the hair shaft. Those raw places leave the soft cortex exposed, and then the hair shaft either splits, or just breaks completely. Split ends will often travel up the hair shaft and break much higher than where they originated. Processed or damaged hair will just break constantly, and some might feel as if their hair never grows. With the protein on the hair, it helps to protect the weak spots from breakage and protects the remaining keratin from further damage. When hair doesn't break, it grows long! The protein also has a second job - it retains moisture and nutrients from your conditioner, which effects the way hair feels. Without the protein, your hair just really can't "hold on" to conditioner, so it washes out, leaving little protection, if any. The protein, since it's already adhered to the hair shaft, will retain the conditioner. A good way to explain that would be, imagine if you put lotion on dry hands. It feels good, but as soon as you wash your hands it all comes off. Now imagine if there was a protective forcefield that kept the moisture IN your skin, instead of it being washed off. That is what our product does. And hair doesn't feel greasy or weighed down at all! For those who use a lighter conditioner, you will still get all of the protection from the protein, but your hair might not have any different feel to it. For the silky feeling, it is highly recommended to use a really good moisture conditioner. Please only apply as the directions indicate. Do not apply directly, or use as a leave-in! This is unlike anything you have ever used before. When in liquid form, the protein is very sticky, this is why it must be mixed with conditioner, so that the amount that adheres to the hair is carefully controlled, and that it coats evenly and thinly with the proper amount of moisture. This is one time where less is more. The dose may look small, but don't be fooled.. a little goes a long way. The perfect amount of protein will be strong, yet still flexible when dry.

A close-up look at a hair shaft gives a better understanding of it's structure:

This is healthy hair -- the cuticle tightly and completely covers the hair shaft:

In damaged hair, you see places where the keratin cuticle has chipped off, exposing the cortex. Over time, the damage gets worse and worse until the hair breaks.

Works for any hair type; curly, straight, kinky, thin, coarse, etc.

Protects and coats ends to prevent splitting.

What to expect: After the application, wet hair might feel a bit tacky, this is because the protein is still wet/soft. Once dry, it feels silky. It is important to use a moisture conditioner to keep protein soft & pliable. Protein loves moisture! Without moisture, protein becomes hard and brittle. If your treatment didn't produce a silky feeling, try a more moisturizing conditioner with your next wash (and with your next treatment in 2 weeks). Although the protein will dry over time on it’s own, for best results it is recommended that you completely blow dry your hair after application, as this will also smooth kinks caused by damaged cuticles. Using the hottest setting will help “set” the protein faster, and using a brush to smooth the hair while drying will also improve results. It is a step that will take an extra 15-20 minutes at most, but the results will be well worth it. The way I look at it ~ if something is worth doing at all, it should at least be done right. As your hair dries, you will see the transformation as it goes from the dry feeling to silky and smooth. After the first blow out, you can return to your normal routine and do whatver you like with your hair. This is not to be confused with the Brazilian Kertain smoothing treatments, super-high heat is not needed or recommended. Normal levels of heat from an average hair dryer is perfectly fine. Using extremely high heat is very damaging to hair and we don't recommended that. If you plan to color your hair, doing a treatment a few days before will keep your hair from being damaged, and it will also be able to take and hold color much better. Same for relaxers and perms – both are very damaging to hair, so a treatment beforehand will save your hair! If you have very curly hair and are unable to blow it out smooth, it is recommended to use a diffuser attachment on your blow drier so the heat is still applied and the protein is set. If unable to blow dry, air drying will not hurt anything, but it may take up to 2 days for protein to completely set and to notice the changes.

  1. Mix 1 capful (fill center section only for short to medium hair, or the entire cap if you have extremely long or thick hair) of Pure Protein in a glass cup or bowl with enough of your favorite conditioner to cover your hair. Any brand of conditioner will work, but it’s recommend to use a moisturizing conditioner if you wish to achieve more of a silky feeling afterward. Set mixture aside.

  1. Wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo to remove all buildup. The hair shaft should be squeaky clean and completely free of any styling product/conditioner buildup or body oils so the protein can properly adhere. After washing, towel dry lightly to remove any dripping water.

  1. Apply protein/conditioner mixture to hair. Comb through until evenly distributed. Cover with a plastic shower cap (or plastic bag) and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse out completely when time is up. Do not wash hair again until the next day.

After application, blow your hair dry completely. For best results, use a brush to smooth and style hair while it is drying. This will not straighten hair, but styling hair immediately after the treatment will help set a temporary “memory” and make styling easier for the next 2 weeks. You can also use a straightening or curling iron to style hair once dried.
